Pixel VIP becomes a one-tap affair
The update replaces the old contacts widget with a more aggressive approach to reachability. Pixel VIP now supports home screen widgets that let you call or text a chosen person with a single tap. Switching between VIPs is handled by a floating overlay navigation menu anchored at the bottom of the screen—no need to open the Phone or Messages app. The new notification badges are designed to surface missed messages from your inner circle, cutting down the chance that an important text gets buried under less urgent alerts. Google is essentially turning the home screen into a command center for the handful of people who matter most.
Scam Detection moves from SMS to the chat apps you actually use
The security side of the drop is subtler but arguably more impactful. Gboard in the U.S. now shows inline warnings when a message looks like a scam, right inside the keyboard rather than requiring you to switch contexts. More broadly, Scam Detection is expanding to cover chat app notifications in more regions—not just SMS. That's a notable shift: fraud warnings are moving into WhatsApp, Telegram, or whatever messaging platform dominates a given market. Google doesn't specify whether these checks run on-device or in the cloud, but the goal is clear: catch attempts before they become conversations. This is the kind of ambient AI that doesn't announce itself—it just quietly flags risk.
Pixel Watch gestures and a touch of Potter
For Pixel Watch owners, the Drop brings:
